Proposal UBC Emeriti College
We are delighted to announce that the UBC Emeritus College has been approved by the Senate and the Board of Governors in June 2018.
The UBC Association of Professors Emeriti (UBCAPE) submitted a proposal for an Emeritus College at UBC, for inclusion in the UBC Strategic Plan.
A proposal to establish an Emeritus College was approved at the Annual General Meeting of UBCAPE on April 26, 2017.
We believe an Emeritus College, which would have a significant and visible impact on UBC and its Emeriti, could be implemented quickly and at relatively low cost. Much of the necessary work required could be undertaken by emeriti themselves, working as volunteers. An Emeritus College would help ensure UBC achieves President Ono’s goal of providing support for Emeriti that is “the best in Canada.” We hope the Strategic Planning Committee will give favourable consideration to this proposal.
In November 2017, the latest version of the proposal was sent to the Provost's Office. The Provost would like to establish the UBC Emeritus College and put the proposal on the Senate's agenda. The Proposal was approved by Senate and the Board of Governors in 2018.
