Proposal UBC Emeriti College
Update: We are delighted to announce that at its May 16th meeting the Senate approved and will recommend to the Board of Governors the creation of the UBC Emeritus College.
The next step is approval by the Board of Governors. We will keep you posted.
The UBC Association of Professors Emeriti (UBCAPE) submitted a proposal for an Emeritus College at UBC, for inclusion in the UBC Strategic Plan.
A proposal to establish an Emeritus College was approved at the Annual General Meeting of UBCAPE on April 26, 2017.
We believe an Emeritus College, which would have a significant and visible impact on UBC and its Emeriti, could be implemented quickly and at relatively low cost. Much of the necessary work required could be undertaken by emeriti themselves, working as volunteers. An Emeritus College would help ensure UBC achieves President Ono’s goal of providing support for Emeriti that is “the best in Canada.” We hope the Strategic Planning Committee will give favourable consideration to this proposal.
In November 2017, the latest version of the proposal was sent to the Provost's Office. The Provost would like to establish the UBC Emeritus College and put the proposal on the Senate's agenda.
